Soap Dispenser Maintenance

Here are some basic tips on keeping your SMARTConnect System and soap dispenser working optimally:
- Once a year, separate the dispenser from the SMARTConnect System and and immerse the dispenser in hot water for 1 minute. Cool and flush the dispenser by pumping cold water through it. This will remove any soap buildup that may be causing the dispenser to work less efficiently.
- Once every six months, separate the Universal Plug from the tubing and soak it in very warm (not boiling) water for 3 minutes to remove any soap residue. Clean the inside of the soap bottle neck with a paper towel. This will keep the SMARTConnect System in best condition.
Troubleshooting
1. Tubing Connector slips off or does not stay in place on dispenser pump
2. Dispenser does not pump soap efficiently
3. The end of the tubing cannot be pushed through the center of the Universal Plug.
4. Soap does not rise up the tubing to the dispenser at all
5. Universal Plug does not seem to fit into mouth of bottle

4. Soap does not rise up the tubing to the dispenser at all
5. Universal Plug does not seem to fit into mouth of bottle
1. Problem: Tubing Connector slips off or does not stay in place on dispenser pump
Probable causes: (1) Dispenser was not fully clean and dry when Tubing Connector
was inserted onto dispenser base. (2) Tubing Connector was not pushed far
enough over the base of dispenser to ensure secure fit.
Fix : Make sure dispenser pump and Tubing Connector are completely clean, dry,
and free of any soap residue. Push Tubing Connector farther onto dispenser pump
base (about 1/2 inch) to ensure a tight grip.
2. Problem: Dispenser does not pump soap efficiently
Probable causes: (1) Dispenser pump may be old and wearing out. (2) Dispenser
pump may contain soap build up and require cleaning. (3) The consistency of the
soap may be too thick for pump to work efficiently.
Fix: Regardless of the specific cause, this issue can be improved by switching to a
different brand of dish soap that has less viscosity, as this will put less strain on the
dispenser. An ideal dish soap will have a consistency similar to gravy, whereas a
dish soap resembling the consistency of honey may be problematic for many soap
dispensers. If switching to a thinner soap is not sufficient, remove soap dispenser
and clean away any old dry soap build-up buy immersing the dispenser in boiling
water for several minutes and then rinsing thoroughly. If the dispenser still fails to
work properly after cleaning, the dispenser may be worn out or faulty and require
replacement. Contact your sink retailer or manufacturer to seek further guidance.
3. Problem: The end of the tubing cannot be pushed through the center of the Universal Plug.
Probable causes: The tubing is designed to fit tightly into the Universal Plug for
optimal performance of the SMARTConnect System. Therefore it is not uncommon to
encounter some resistance when inserting the tubing through the Universal Plug. If
the tubing is exceedingly difficult to insert, it is usually because there is not
sufficient lubrication on the end of the tubing.
Fix: Use additional soap and water to lubricate tubing or rub a small amount of
soap directly onto end of tubing. Feed the tubing through the Universal Plug
slowly with firm but not excessive pressure. If you push on the tubing too hard or
too quickly, the tubing may bunch up and will be difficult to push through. If the
tubing is still resistant, wet the hole in the center of the Universal Plug with running
water. Use only as much soap/water lubrication as needed. Applying excessive
lubrication may lessen the ability of the Universal Plug to hold tubing in place. This
can cause the tubing to slide toward the base of the soap bottle and curve upward
from the base. The SMARTConnect System will still work if this happens but the tubing
may not efficiently draw in soap when the soap level is very low (less than 1/2 inch).
4. Problem: Soap does not rise up the tubing to the dispenser at all
Probable cause: Although rare, it is possible for the ventilation channel that runs
down the center hole of the Universal Plug to become blocked with soap residue,
causing the inside of the soap bottle to lose pressure when the dispenser is
pumped.
Fix: Remove Universal Plug and immerse it in very warm water for 1 minute. Rinse
thoroughly under warm running water to flush out the the center hole of the
Universal Plug. Dry and reinsert tubing through Universal Plug, and place Universal
Plug back into soap bottle.
5. Problem: Universal Plug does not seem to fit inside mouth of soap bottle
Probable cause: The soap bottle has a non-standard design. The Universal Plug is designed to fit all
standard soap bottle variations, which means it is compatible with the vast majority of soap bottles on
the market. However, in some rare instances, a soap bottle may have a non-standard bottle design. If
this is the case, the Universal Plug may not easily fit within the bottle.
Fix: If the Universal Plug is too wide to fit into a non-standard bottle, try using scissors to trim down
or shorten the fins on the narrowest part of the Universal Plug.
Probable causes: (1) Dispenser was not fully clean and dry when Tubing Connector
was inserted onto dispenser base. (2) Tubing Connector was not pushed far
enough over the base of dispenser to ensure secure fit.

and free of any soap residue. Push Tubing Connector farther onto dispenser pump
base (about 1/2 inch) to ensure a tight grip.
